{RECIPE} Healthier Hot Chocolate

Healthier Hot Chocolate Recipe

Is there anything better than a nice, hot cup of hot chocolate? Whether you enjoy it mixed with coffee – as a mocha – or on it’s own, there are few drinks that can create such a sense of comfort . . . And comfort food it is! However, like most comfort food, hot chocolate, especially the kind that comes from the store-bought tins (guilty!) packs a mighty caloric punch and is ultimately nothing short of flavoured sugar.

Not to worry though, there is a healthier alternative! If you and your kids love hot chocolate as much as I do, I know you’ll love this recipe, contributed by Kathy Klassen, a health and fitness coach, who is an amazingly creative chef and foodie.

This recipe is super simple, and is also dairy-free and sugar-free!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut milk or milk of your choice or water
  • 1 Tbsp cocoa powder, sifted to remove clumps
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Place all ingredients in a small saucepan and whisk over low heat until combined and desired temperature has been reached.

Pour into a mug and enjoy!
